Christmas Season - Chore or Celebration?

Over the last few years, for me, the Christmas season has become more of a chore than a celebration.  Really cannot pinpoint when this transition happened.... but it did.

This girl was all about decking out the house in all its red and green glory.... even the bathrooms had Christmas cheer.  (I still love Christmas and all the decorations, just not in the mood to do it!)

So......is it age that has quieted my Christmas enthusiasm? (Honestly, the thoughts of having to put all that stuff away kind of makes my stomach hurt.)

Or is it because I want to simplify?

It does seem that my idea of celebration has changed over the years.  Before....I had convinced myself that the only way everyone would feel like celebrating was if I had set the stage properly.....  the house had to look like North Pole exploded in every nook and cranny.....

Now.... not so much.

Instead of decorating my house with glitter bombs, I want to fill it with laughter, music and yummy smells.

AND if everyone shows up in a glittery, shiny, red and green Christmas sweater...... that would be PERFECT!

  1. Well the shops are full of those Christmas jumpers now, very nostalgic! I think my Christmases used to be full of sparkle and now, like you, the idea of putting it all away afterwards really makes me depressed. But, as long as there is some sparkle, laughter and food, of course food! Christmas will be perfect xx

  2. I feel exactly the same way....the days of my place not having a spot to put a decoration have
gone. But, like you all I would like is my home filled with family, friends and laughter. Oh and the
    food of course.

  3. For me, Christmas means to have time for reading, sitting there, chatting, doing nothing, going for walks. That's why I've been simplifying for years. No chores at all! If I feel in the mood, we will have a Christmas tree and some decorations. But if not, it's Christmas nontheless. Merry Christmas to you!

  4. When we lost both dads and our dog in 2009, our Christmases changed. Last year I went through my decorations and gave away or donated a pile of stuff. Kept only the pieces that gave good memories. This year is the first that I looked forward to decorating. It is simply done and just perfect! As many will say or think... Christmas is not about the 'stuff' it's about enjoying and appreciating current and past friends and family... HUgs to you and Merry Christmas!
